A Supersonic Inflatable Aerodynamic Decelerator for Robotic missions to Mars
The SIAD-R is a pressurized softgoods article that is attached to the backshell of a test vehicle designed to emulate a Mars entry vehicle. When inflate the SIAD-R increases the drag on the entry vehicle. This inflated supersonic decelerator would deploy at up to Mach 4 and at dynamic pressures of up to 2200Pa.
